President Recep Tayyip Erdoan talked over the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, expressing his country's readiness to contribute to a peaceful resolution of situations in Russia as soon as feasible.
According to a statement released by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, Erdoan and Putin discussed the recent developments in Russia following Wagner's armed uprising against the Russian state.
Erdoan emphasised the importance of acting with common sense during the call.
According to the statement, "no one should take it upon themselves to take action in the face of the situation in Russia."
"In this sense, we as Türkiye stand ready to do our part in order for the incidents to be resolved in a calm and peaceful manner," Erdoğan said, according to the statement.
In a speech to the whole nation on Saturday, Putin accused Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin of treason. This was after paramilitary soldiers crossed the border from Ukraine into Russia and went to the city of Rostov-on-Don.
Prigozhin charged that Russian forces had assaulted his combatants, a claim Moscow denies.
Prigozhin has often accused the Russian Defense Ministry and Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu of failing to equip the paramilitary force with adequate weapons in recent months.
Wagner has been fighting in Ukraine alongside the Russian army.
