A total of 194 deputy secretaries from all cadres, except the administration cadre, have demanded promotion to the post of joint secretary.
Claiming that they were "deprived" from getting the promotion, these officials met Public Administration Ministry Senior Secretary Mokhles Ur Rahman and Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain yesterday with their demand. They claimed that officials of the administration cadre get promoted regularly in different phases, and that they have only been given assurance of promotion but no initiatives were taken by the Ministry of Public Administration to this end.
Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Deputy Secretary Nurul Amin told reporters that since 2023, 194 deputy secretaries of 25 cadres other than administration cadre from 13th to 22nd batch of Bangladesh Civil Service are deprived of promotion.
Regarding today's meeting with the secretaries, Nurul Amin said,
"The public administration secretary said the cabinet secretary is the president of the Superior Selection Board. Any
meeting regarding promotion will be convened if he sets the date. "When the deprived officials went to the cabinet secretary yesterday, he said if the public administration secretary wants, he [cabinet secretary] will schedule a meeting."
