Stocks flat as large-cap issues tumble

Stock markets yesterday finished the session of the week flat as the major indices of the both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges showed slightly down amid lower activities of large-cap securities.
The benchmark index of the Dhaka bourse closed the day with 1.82 point down at 5,483.14. The Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 1.56 point down at 1,201.86. But, the blue-chip DS30 closed the day with 17.08 points up at 1,961.37.
Out of 397 issues traded, 221 closed lower, 121 advanced and 55 issues remained unchanged on the DSE floor.
The major gaining issues were NRBBANK, TECHNODRUG, RANFOUNDRY, KOHINOOR and LIBRAINFU. The major losing companies were PRIMETEX, RUPALILIFE, SEMLIBBLSF, ITC and HEIDELBCEM.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 15 points down at 15,617.04. At CSE, 238 issues were traded. Of those, 59 closed higher and 149 closed lower when 60.79 lakh shares worth Taka 28.47 crore changed hands.
Meanwhile, Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Tk6,22.25 crore, which was Tk6,64.28 crore at the previous session of the week.
Out of 397 issues traded, 297 declined, 70 advanced and 30 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
FARCHEM was the day's top gainer, posting 9.76% gain while SONALILIFE was the worst loser, losing 3%.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -losing 96.54 points to settle at 15,661.07 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX shedding 59.48 points to close at 9,425.73.
Of the issues traded, 165 declined, 46 advanced and 17 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city's bourse traded 21.70 lakh shares and mutual fund units with turnover value worth about Tk8.37 crore.
