Interim govt taken various initiatives to revitalize police: CA

The Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has stated that the country's law and order situation is now mostly under control.

Dr. Yunus noted, “After the fall of the autocratic regime, the police force had collapsed. However, the interim government has undertaken various initiatives to reinvigorate the police. The government is working to create a supportive environment for the police to perform their duties effectively.”

He made these remarks on Tuesday at the inauguration ceremony of Police Week held at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital.

The Chief Adviser said that over the past 15 years, the police had been turned into a partisan force. While carrying out illegal orders, the police faced public outrage which caused even many honest officers to suffer consequences.

“Bangladesh is gaining respect on the world stage, and the police play a vital role in making that vision a reality. The biggest challenge now is to rebuild public trust in the police by bridging the gap that was created during the autocratic regime. Our utmost effort is to eliminate this gap between the people and the police so that citizens can see the police as friends,” The Chief Adviser added.

Emphasizing the importance of a free and fair election, Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said the period leading up to the election is quite challenging. Therefore, the police must remain vigilant to ensure that defeated forces cannot destabilize the country in any way.

He stated that the country is facing a critical battle, with harmful forces doing everything in their power to undermine national dreams and unity.

He emphasized that the police must stay alert to resist them.

The Chief Adviser stated “The election will be held either in December this year or by June of the following year. The role of the police will be crucial in ensuring the election is free and fair. It is the responsibility of the police to treat all contesting candidates equally and to ensure the environment for voters that they can cast their ballots without fear.”
