SC scraps graft case against Yunus

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has scrapped the money laundering case filed against Nobel Laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

The decision was given on Wednesday, by the Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, allowing the appeal filed by Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

Earlier, after rejecting the petition challenging the legality of the charges and seeking dismissal of the proceedings, the Appellate Division fixed April 23 for the verdict, following a hearing on the appeal against the High Court’s ruling on March 19.

Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun represented the petitioner in court. Attorney General Md Asaduz-zaman represented the state, while lawyer Asif Hasan appeared on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Previously, on October 21, 2024, the Appellate Division had granted leave to appeal. The case was filed on May 30, 2023, by ACC Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar Pradhan.
