Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has been hospitalised after suffering chest pain during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan(BKSP) grounds in Savar on Monday.
Tamim, who was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club, took part in the toss against Shinepukur Cricket Club but later complained of discomfort in his chest.
He was initially treated at the ground before being taken to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.
Tariqul Islam, a Mohammedan official, confirmed to UNB that Tamim is currently admitted at KPJ Specialized Hospital.
“Tamim is under medical care now. We urge everyone to pray for his quick recovery,” he said.
Tamim’s condition was initially considered serious enough for a possible airlift to Dhaka. But, medical personnel advised against the transfer due to his stability at the time, and he was shifted instead to KPJ Specialized Hospital in Savar, located near the BKSP complex.
In response to the sudden health scare, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has postponed its scheduled board meeting, which was due to begin at 12pm.
