Attempted Rape in N’ganj: Afroza Abbas Visits the Child’s Home

Afroza Abbas, the president of the BNP-affiliated Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, visited the home of an eight-year-old child who was the victim of an attempted rape in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj.

Following the directive of BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, she visited the child’s home in Atigram, Ward No. 4 of Narayanganj City Corporation on Sunday (March 16) morning. During the visit, Afroza Abbas spoke with the child’s guardians, inquired about their well-being, and extended financial assistance on behalf of Tarique Rahman. She also assured them of legal and medical support for the child.

Speaking to journalists, Afroza Abbas stated, “Incidents of child abuse are on the rise in the country, and the government’s judicial system is responsible for this.” She further remarked, “If the rapist of Magura’s Achiya had been properly punished, such incidents would not have continued to happen.” She also criticized the government, claiming, “Because the government rewards rapists, the trend of gang rape has increased in the country.”

Afroza Abbas called on the current government to take stricter measures to prevent rape. She demanded that rapists be hanged in public and urged the enactment of harsher laws to ensure justice.

According to reports, on Friday (March 14) morning, the child went to Selim’s grocery store in Atigram, Siddhirganj, to buy biscuits after receiving money from her mother. Selim allegedly lured the child inside with the promise of chocolates and attempted to rape her. The child’s screams alerted nearby residents, who caught Selim and beat him before Siddhirganj police arrived and arrested him.

Afroza Abbas was accompanied by Narayanganj district BNP’s No. 1 Joint Convener Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan Dipu, Joint Convener Masukul Islam Rajib, No. 1 member of the convening committee Muhammad Gias Uddin, District Jubo Dal Convener Monirul Islam Sajal, Advocate Shamsun Noor Bandhan—secretary of the Nationalist Oppressed Lawyers Association Narayanganj Metropolitan Committee and the child’s legal representative—along with leaders of various local affiliated organizations.
