No discussion on polls timeframe in meeting with Guterres: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said there was no discussion on the polls timeframe during the meeting with visiting UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Guterres joined a roundtable meeting with National Consensus Commission and political leaders at a city hotel today, which was joined by Mirza Fakhrul. Members of the Reform Commission and political leaders were present at the meeting, arranged under the initiative of the UN.

The BNP secretary general said they informed the UN chief that election-related reforms should be completed quickly to hold the next national election soon.

Reforms are an ongoing process and the remaining reforms must be completed through the new parliament, he said, adding that Guterres did not comment on this.

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed was also present during the briefing.
Earlier, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission Professor Dr. Ali Riaz, members Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Badiul Alam Majumder, National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam, Jamaat Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Jamaat Naib-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Taher, Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Gana Sanghati Andolan's Zunaid Saki, CPB's Ruhin Hossain Prince and AB Party's Asaduzzaman Fuad joined the meeting apart from the BNP leaders.
