Former State Minister Palak Granted 12 Days Remand in Narayanganj

During a court hearing in Narayanganj, former State Minister for ICT, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, stated, "I had no involvement in shutting down the internet. The Ministry of Home Affairs implemented the shutdown as per legal procedures."

The court has granted a 12-day remand for Palak in connection with three cases—two murder cases under Siddhirganj police station and one murder and explosives case under Sadar police station—linked to the anti-discrimination movement in Narayanganj.

On Tuesday, February 25, at 11 AM, Senior Judicial Magistrate Belayet Hossain approved the remand. The information was confirmed by Narayanganj court police inspector Md. Kaiyum Khan.

During the hearing, Palak further stated, “I supported the 2018 quota reform movement. The reform was implemented in a cabinet meeting at that time. The allegations against me are false.”

State prosecutor Advocate Abul Kalam Azad Zakir alleged, “Under Palak’s directive, three individuals—Abul Hasnat Sajal, Sharif, and Hafiz Soleiman—were shot and killed during a student protest. The police initially sought a 19-day remand—7 days for the two Siddhirganj cases and 5 days for the Sadar case. However, after hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted a total of 12 days—4 days per case.”

Meanwhile, advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan, representing the plaintiff, mentioned that Palak had no legal representation in court and defended himself. He requested that the court accept Palak’s statement as an official testimony. Since this was a remand hearing, the court has the authority to record his statement.
