A court in Dhaka has issued an order banning former Member of Parliament for Narayanganj-4 constituency, Shamim Osman, along with his wife Salma Osman, son Imtinan Osman, and daughter Labiba Zoha from leaving the country.

On Tuesday (February 25), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain (Galib) issued the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The application stated that Shamim Osman is under investigation for allegations of operating a syndicate for tender manipulation, extortion in various sectors, receiving commissions from transport and jute traders, trading party positions and nominations, illegal land grabbing, and embezzlement of government development project funds. It is alleged that he laundered money abroad and acquired properties in Canada and the United States, as well as conducted business in Dubai, accumulating hundreds of crores of taka beyond known sources of income under his and his family members' names.

Reliable sources indicate that the individuals involved may attempt to flee the country, which could obstruct the investigation. Therefore, in the interest of a fair investigation, it is deemed necessary to impose a travel ban on them.
