The police recovered the hanging body of a student of Rajshahi University (RU) from Tuhin hostel in Meherchandi area adjacent to the university on Friday evening. Professor Dr. Md. Mahbubor Rahman proctor of the university confirmed the matter.
The name of the student is Md. Sifat Sifatullah. He is a student of 2022-23 academic year of Fisheries Department of the University. His house is in Chanbunia village of Bamana police station in Barguna district. After the recovery, the police sent the body to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) morgue for autopsy.
Siddiqur Rahman, a student of mass communication and journalism department in the same hostel said, "Sifat was suffering from depression for several days. That may be why he committed suicide."
Professor Dr. Md. Mahbubor Rahman, proctor of the university said, "When asked about the cause of death, he said that as far as I could tell from his friends and teachers of the department, he was very depressed. He committed suicide when his roommate went out."
Chandrima police station Officer-in-charge Matiar Rahman said, "They recovered the body of the student while hanging. The body has been sent to Rajshahi Medical Hospital morgue for post-mortem. The cause of death is not known yet."
