Four Companies Fined 8 Lakh Taka for Air Pollution in Narayanganj

The Department of Environment conducted an operation in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, on Tuesday (February 18) to curb air pollution, imposing fines totaling 8 lakh Taka on four companies.

Led by Abdullah Al-Mamun, Executive Magistrate and Senior Assistant Secretary of the Monitoring and Enforcement Wing of the Department of Environment, the operation targeted Meghna Ghat in Sonargaon. Violations of the Air Pollution Control Rules 2022 (Clause 11[b]) and the Bangladesh Environmental Protection Act 1995 (Clause 15[2]) resulted in LafargeHolcim Ltd., Ceramic Industries Ltd., Meghna Ceramic Industries Ltd., and Unique Cement Industries Ltd. being fined 2 lakh Taka each.

The fines were collected on the spot, and Assistant Director of the Department of Environment, Md. Mobarak Hossain, handled the prosecution.

Sources from the Department of Environment stated that such operations to prevent air pollution will continue in the future.
