Narayanganj District BNP Announces 5 Member Convening Committee

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a new five-member convening committee for its Narayanganj district unit, with Professor Mamun Mahmud, a member of the BNP’s National Executive Committee, as the convener.

This comes after the previous district committee was dissolved on December 24 following recommendations from an investigation committee. Notably, the new committee does not include a secretary position.

Mustafizur Rahman Dipu Bhuiyan, a member of the Executive Committee, has been appointed as the senior joint convener, while Mashukul Islam Rajib and Sharif Ahmed Tutul have been named joint conveners. Mohammad Gias Uddin has been included as a committee member.

The announcement was made through a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday (February 2).

Professor Mamun Mahmud, the newly appointed convener, stated, A convening committee for Narayanganj District BNP has been formed today through an official statement. I express my gratitude to BNP’s acting chairperson, Tarique Rahman, as well as to all party leaders and activists. Given the current political scenario, our priority is to work together without internal conflicts and to maintain unity within the party. I seek everyone’s cooperation in this effort.

On June 18, 2023, during the Narayanganj district BNP conference, former Member of Parliament Muhammad Gias Uddin was elected president, and Golam Faruq Khokon was elected general secretary. However, following a shift in the political landscape on August 5, allegations began surfacing against the leadership of this committee. The BNP central committee formed an investigation team, which later recommended dissolving the committee. Acting on these recommendations, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi issued a statement on December 24, officially dissolving the previous committee.
