Adviser Hassan Ariff passes away

Adviser of the Interim Government on Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism A F Hassan Ariff died of a massive cardiac arrest at a city hospital this afternoon. He was 85.

Hassan Ariff died of a massive cardiac arrest at 3.35pm today at Labaid hospital in the city, PRO of civil aviation and tourism ministry Mahbub Rahman Tuhin told to media. 

The adviser was brought to the hospital's emergency unit around 3pm and doctors declared him dead at 3:35 pm after following all protocol, said Labaid Media Manager Chowdhury Meher-e Khoda. 

Hassan Ariff left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

The first Namaz-e-Janaza of Hassan Ariff will be held at Baitul Aman Mosque at Dhanmondi-7 after Esha prayers this evening. His second Janaza will be held on the premises of the High Court at 11 am tomorrow.

After formation of the Council of Advisers led by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, Hassan Ariff was got the responsibility of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Ministry and Land Ministry. Later, he was given the responsibility of Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry.

A senior lawyer of Bangladesh Supreme Court, Hassan Ariff was the Attorney General of Bangladesh from October 2001 to April 2005.

He served as an adviser of the Caretaker Government from January 2008 to January 2009 in charge of the ministry of law, justice and parliamentary affairs, the land ministry and the religious affairs ministry.

Hassan Ariff was born in Kolkata in 1941. He did his secondary and higher secondary education from St. Xavier's College of Kolkata. Later, he did his honours and LLB Degree from Kolkata University. 

He Started his career from Kolkata High Court in 1967. Later, he shifted to Dhaka and started his legal profession as an advocate in the High Court from 1970.

Besides, he served as a legal adviser of different organizations including Roads and Highways Department, Chattogram Port Authority, Mongla Port Authority, Security and Exchange Commission, Bangladesh Bank, Chattogram Development Authority, Chattogram Stock Exchange, University Grants Commission, and Grameenphone.

He was also an adviser of the Dhakeshwari National Temple Complex.
