Father Surrenders to Police After Killing Child in Narayanganj

In a tragic incident in Rupganj, Narayanganj, a mentally unstable father has confessed to killing his six-year-old son, Julfiyar Jihad, by drowning him.

The child’s body was recovered by the Fire Service from a waterlogged area near the Asian Highway on Tuesday night around 9 PM, following the father's confession.

The accused, Jubayer Hasan Himel (30), hails from Hanif Mia's family in Nagarakandi village, under Satirpara Union in Narsingdi.

According to Mizan, the officer in charge of Bhulta Police Outpost, Jubayer had been experiencing long-standing marital issues with his wife. Eventually, his wife left him and moved elsewhere, leaving him to care for their son, Jihad. Struggling with the responsibilities of parenting and work, Jubayer became mentally unstable. Viewing his son as a burden, he drowned him in water on Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday evening, at around 5 PM, Jubayer voluntarily went to the Bhulta Police Outpost and confessed to killing his son. Acting on his information, police immediately visited the scene and alerted the Fire Service. The child's body was found in a waterlogged ditch near Munshi Petrol Pump, hidden beneath water hyacinths.

Further legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway.
