The High Court granted three months' bail to Shomi Kaiser, former president of the E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) and actor, in a case filed over attempted murder with Uttara East police station during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Dhaka.
A High Court bench, consisting of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain, issued this order on today, after hearing her bail petition. Barrister Hamidul Misbah represented the petition for bail in court.
Shomi Kaiser filed the bail petition on Sunday.
Shomi Kaiser was arrested on the night of November 5 from her residence in Uttara, Dhaka. Later, the court granted her a three-day remand. After completing the remand, she was sent to jail on November 9.
During the anti-discrimination student movement on July 18, a businessman named Ishtiak Mahmud and others participated in a procession. At that time, members of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League attacked and fired bullets in front of Azampur Nawab Habibullah High School in Sector 4, in Uttara. Ishtiak was shot in the abdomen and received treatment at Evercare Hospital.
On September 29, Ishtiak Mahmud filed an attempted murder case with Uttara East police station. A total of 126 individuals, including former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, were named as accused in the case. Shomi Kaiser is an accused in the case, listed as number 24 in the charge sheet.
