A youth Sajib Debnath (28) was stabbed to death over a dispute during a drug session in Fatullah, Narayanganj.
The deceased, Sajib Debnath, hailed from Shushu Kathpotti area under Sadar Police Station in Barguna district and was the son of Ashutosh Debnath. The incident occurred around 12:30 AM on Sunday night in the Pagla Talatola area.
Following the incident, police swiftly arrested two individuals involved in the killing, identified as Robi (17) and Sajjad (18). Robi is the son of Bijoy Mondol from Nayamati area in Pagla, Fatullah, while Sajjad is the son of Mithu, a tenant of Barek Dewan near Pagla High School.
Eyewitnesses and dredger workers revealed that multiple dredgers unload sand from the Buriganga River at Pagla Talatola. At night, local drug addicts often gather on these dredgers to use drugs. On Sunday night, Sajib, Robi, and Sajjad boarded a dredger named "Panchtara" through the dock of "Touhid Traders". While consuming cannabis, an argument broke out among them.
During the altercation, Robi and Sajjad attacked Sajib with a knife, stabbing him in the abdomen. Sajib’s screams drew dredger workers to the scene, prompting the attackers to flee. Police were alerted and promptly arrested Robi and Sajjad.
Ashutosh Debnath, Sajib's father, stated that he works as a security guard for a company while residing in a mess in Mirpur, Dhaka. Sajib, who had previously worked for a pharmaceutical company in Mirpur, left the job a year ago and returned to his hometown. Two months ago, Sajib returned to Mirpur to stay with his father. A month ago, he moved to Pagla, Fatullah, to work at a wholesale vegetable market. Early on Sunday morning, Ashutosh learned about his son’s death through the police.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fatullah Model Police Station, Md. Shariful Islam, stated that the stabbing occurred during a fight that broke out while the youths were consuming drugs. Sajib succumbed to his injuries at the scene. With the help of locals, police arrested the two suspects. During preliminary questioning, both confessed to their involvement in the murder.
