The altercation between the students turned the area into a battleground, with local residents also joining the skirmish To restore law and order, six platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the Jatrabari-Demra area of the capital, on Tuesday.
The development was confirmed by BGB Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam.
The situation had escalated on Monday after a violent clash broke out between students of Shahid Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, and Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC).
The altercation turned the Demra-Jatrabari area into a battleground, with local residents also joining the skirmish.
A large number of law enforcement personnel have been deployed to regain control of the area.
According to reports, the incident began when students from Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul College attacked DMRC students with sticks.
Students from the seven affiliated colleges later joined the attack, and attempts were made to set the DMRC building on fire.
Local residents eventually became involved in the conflict. At least 10 students were reported injured in the clashes.
