Proud to have Khaleda Zia attend Armed Forces Day: Yunus

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus expressed his pride and satisfaction as BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia attended the Armed Forces Day reception at Senakunja on Today.

Speaking at the event, Yunus said: "We are proud to have brought Khaleda Zia here."

He further added: “Begum Khaleda Zia, wife of the martyred President Ziaur Rahman, has come here. She hadn’t had the opportunity to attend for over a decade. We are proud to have made this opportunity possible.”

Addressing Khaleda Zia, he said: “Despite prolonged illness, thank you once again for joining everyone on this special day. I wish you a swift recovery.”

Yunus and Khaleda Zia were seen sitting side by side on a sofa, smiling and conversing during the event. Earlier, at around 3:30pm, Khaleda Zia left her residence, Firoza, in Gulshan, and reached Senakunja at approximately 3:45pm.

On November 13, 2010, Khaleda Zia was forcibly evicted from her family’s home on Shaheed Moinul Road in Dhaka Cantonment, a place filled with 40 years of memories, with only the clothes she was wearing. She entered Senakunja in that same cantonment.

Meanwhile, this marks the first public appearance of the BNP Chairperson in a program since 2018. Her last public engagement was a visit to Sylhet on February 5, 2018. Khaleda Zia previously attended the Armed Forces Day program at Senakunja in 2012.
