The Universal College Bangladesh (UCB) recently hosted an orientation session for the newly launched University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) programme. With this, UCB now offers several full UK honours degrees, which can be completed in three years. Students with HSC, IB, or A2 Levels are eligible to join the UCLan Business and Marketing degree. Admission is open for the next 10 days.
Students and their guardians gathered at UCB’s state-of-the-art campus for the orientation driven by academic faculty from UCLan and UCB, including Shabaz Ali Mahmood, Lecturer in Digital Marketing from UCLan's School of Business; Professor Hew Gill, President & Provost of UCB; and Professor Muhammad Ismail Hossain, Dean of Academic Affairs at UCB.
UCB works in partnership with UCLan to give Bangladeshi students the opportunity to pursue full UK degrees in Bangladesh. The curriculum, teaching materials, and assessment are all designed by UCLan so that students study the same top-rated programme as students in the UK. Degrees from UCLan teach a wide range of practical career skills, and are designed to develop a solid foundation for professional success. UCB students will receive degree certificates awarded by UCLan, which are exactly the same as the certificates awarded in the UK. Students who complete their BSc degree with UCLan at UCB can also pursue Masters programmes at highly reputed global universities.
In his opening remarks, Professor Hew Gill, President & Provost of UCB, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership with UCLan and its positive impact on local students, saying, “Our collaboration is destined to unlock global opportunities for Bangladeshi students, while keeping education affordable and accessible. Together with UCLan, we are setting benchmarks for excellence and giving every Bangladeshi student the opportunity to study for an international degree in Dhaka”.
Shabaz Ali Mahmood, Lecturer in Digital Marketing, School of Business, University of Central Lancashire, said, “The UCLan programme offers Bangladeshi students a great opportunity to earn a prestigious UK degree without leaving home. UCLan believes in eliminating borders and barriers for students, and enabling them to get top paying jobs”.
Shafik Waes, Deputy Registrar, explained the key academic policies that students need to follow. The orientation was then split with students receiving presentations from Marzia Al-Hakeem, Student Support Head about the enriching academic and social life awaiting them at UCB. In a separate session Prof Hew and Ms Samia Salam, Parent Engagement Executive, explained how parents are kept informed about their children’s academic progress and other important information.
