Dhaka Wasa School Campaign ’Clean City, Healthy Life’

Under Dhaka Wasar Sanitation Improvement Project (DSIP) Dhaka Wasar School Campaign titled 'Clean City, Healthy Life' campaign was held.

The campaign was held on Monday (October 21) at Udayan Higher Secondary School, a primary school near the trunk main of Dhaka's DSIP project.

This awareness campaign is organized under the initiative of Dhaka WASA and in collaboration with Red Orange Media and Communications.

The main objective of the campaign is to make children, parents and teachers aware of safe water supply, sewage management and healthy environment, the role of Dhaka Wasa in establishing a livable city and inform them in detail about safe sewage management and Dhaka Sanitation Development Project.

Also during sewage management there may be a need to dig up roads, resulting in temporary disruption to human traffic - everyone's co-operation is sought in this regard.

Each campaign begins with school principals introducing students and teachers to Dhaka WASA officials.

SM Anwar Sattar, Superintending Engineer and Deputy Project Director, DSIP, WASA was present as the Chief Guest.

In the speech of the chief guest, Sattar said, 'Dhaka WASA is determined to ensure safe water and sewage management for the city dwellers. We have undertaken the DSIP project to improve sewage management. Excavation for DSIP project work will start on various roads of Dhaka city very soon. Roads may also be dug up in front of many schools to accommodate sewage pipe lines. So I apologize to everyone in advance. But within a few years you will be able to see the benefits of this project with your own eyes.

After the lecture, representatives of Red Orange Communications conducted some workshops with the students to raise awareness about sewage disposal and sanitation.

Students of class III, IV and V participated actively in this workshop by reading and coloring educational materials. More than 250 students participated in the campaign and expressed their determination to impart the knowledge, awareness and perspective learned from the campaign to their family members and friends throughout the day.

Later, in a separate meeting, Dhaka Wasa representatives discussed the DSIP project in more detail with the faculty and school management committee members. In this meeting, the project team members explained in detail about the improvement of Dhaka's sewage disposal system and highlighted how it will help in building a clean and healthy city.
At the end of the program educational materials like coloring books, pencils etc. are distributed among the students.

The discussion program was presided over by Muhammad Arifur Rahman, Principal (Acting), Udayan Higher Secondary School.

Among others present on behalf of Red Orange Media and Communications were Alak Kumar Majumder, Director - WASH, Environment and Climate Justice and Rudgarian Skhun, Senior Strategic Communications Advisor.
