University of London Degrees orientation held

Universal College Bangladesh (UCB) organised the Orientation programme for parents and students joining this year’s intake for the University of London (UoL) degrees offered at the UCB campus in Gulshan. UCB offers full three year degrees in business, accounting, finance and economics under the academic direction of the London School of Economics (LSE).  Students with HSC, IB, AS, A, or O Levels are eligible to join the degrees with admissions closing this week.

UCB works in partnership with the University of London to give Bangladeshi students the opportunity to pursue full UK degrees in Dhaka.  The curriculum, teaching materials, and assessment are all designed by the LSE so that students study the same top-rated programme as students in London. Degrees from UoL bring golden opportunities for Bangladeshi youth to develop a solid foundation to their academic and professional careers. With degree certificates awarded by the University of London students can pursue Masters programmes at highly reputed global universities. Students who complete their UoL degree at UCB are also eligible for scholarships to study their Masters at the LSE.

The orientation was opened by Professor Hew Gill, President & Provost of UCB, who welcomed students and parents to the event. Dewan Yazdani, Senior Lecturer, UCB, shared an overview of the Business & Management, Accounting & Finance, Economics, and Finance degrees available from UoL.  Shafik Waes, Deputy Registrar, explained the key academic policies that students need to follow. The orientation was then split with students receiving presentations from Marzia Al-Hakeem, Student Support Head, Zebunessa Zeba, Student Services Executive, and Biplab Paul, IT Administration Executive.  In a separate session Prof Hew and Ms Samia Salam, Parent Engagement Executive, explained how parents are kept informed about their children’s academic progress and other important information.

Professor Hew Gill said, “At UCB, we always emphasise how all our students in the UoL-LSE degree programmes are given comprehensive mentorship, career guidance, and hands-on experience, which are crucial for a well-rounded international education.  Professor Hew continued, “The LSE curriculums are designed to enhance students’ educational experience by providing the support and resources that target optimum academic and professional growth. All our faculty are approved by the LSE and we use small group teaching to create a personalised learning environment for every student.  We focus on developing the critical thinking and leadership skills that are particularly valuable for preparing students to meet the demands of the current fast-evolving job market.”

Admission for the UoL-LSE degree programmes will continue until the end of this week and there will be a special scholarship examination session for HSC students. For more information, please visit - https://ucbbd.org/.
