Residents of Ward No. 69 in the Dhaka South City Corporation have raised serious allegations of corruption against the Board of Directors of Demra University College. The institution, established by former MP Alhaj Salauddin Ahmed, has been under the management of an Awami League committee for the past 16 years. Local residents are expressing their outrage over the alleged mismanagement and corruption.

Eyewitness accounts detail incidents where local Awami League leaders reportedly assaulted professors with shoes in front of committee members and the principal. Witness Khan Mohammad confirmed these distressing incidents, highlighting a climate of intimidation within the college.

Tensions escalated following the fall of the Awami League government on August 24, leading to a police case against principal Noor A Alam. Residents allege that BNP-affiliated individuals, including Rafiqur Islam Rafiq, known as "Chora Rafiq," have taken advantage of the situation to further their interests. Nabiullah Nabi, the BNP president of Tajul and Dhaka-5 constituencies, is accused of maintaining the old Awami League committee, which has contributed to the unrest.

A post on the verified Demra University College page from a user named Khan Mahmud claimed, “After the student movement on August 5, Chora Rafiq has become Aladdin's lamp,” suggesting that Rafiq has benefitted significantly from the chaos. Allegations of theft and extortion have surfaced, with claims that Rafiq orchestrated several robberies in the ward, netting substantial profits in just two days.

Residents are demanding accountability and transparency from the Board of Directors and have expressed their determination to address these corruption allegations. The local community continues to voice their concerns, seeking justice and reforms within the educational institution.
