A case has been filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 147 others in connection with the death of Liton Hasan Lalu, also known as Hasan, who was shot and killed during the quota reform movement in Mirpur, Dhaka.

On Monday, Hasan's brother, Milon, filed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan.

The court recorded the plaintiff's statement and directed the Mirpur Model police station to accept the case as an official First Information Report (FIR). The plaintiff's lawyer Iltutmish Saudagar Anny confirmed the development.

Among the notable accused in the case are former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, and former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman.

The case alleges that while a peaceful movement by students and citizens was underway for rightful and logical demands, Hasan participated in a protest on August 4.

At around 2pm, under the orders of Sheikh Hasina along with other accused. an unidentified group of 200-300 people opened fire on the protest using illegal weapons.

Liton Hasan was shot by a bullet fired by an unidentified assailant and later died on August 7 while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital (NINS) in Agargaon.
