MRT Line-6 of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) will extend its operation on Uttara-Motijheel-Uttara route till night from January 6.
"Commuters will enjoy the metro rail services on the Uttara-Motijheel-Uttara route till night from January 6," DMTCL managing director MAN Siddique told a press conference at his office today.
Siddique said the Karwan Bazar and Shahbagh stations will go into operations on December 31.
Currently, the metro rail service is available between 7.30am and 11.30am on Motijheel-Uttara part of the MRT Line-6.
The Dhaka University and Bijoy Sarani stations went into operation from December 13.
Siddique said currently 1.30 lakh to 1.50 lakh people are using the metro rail service daily.
A letter has been sent to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner to prevent any disruptions like in the last year when flying lanterns caused a halt in the rail services on 31st night, he said.
On November 4, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the second phase of the metro rail's Agargaon to Motijheel part.
After the inauguration of the Agargaon-Motijheel section, initially the metro rail used to stop at Farmgate, Bangladesh Secretariat and Motijheel stations.
Two metro trains run from Uttara North at 7:10am and 7:20am for the convenience of students and professionals.
Only MRT Pass and Rapid Pass holders can travel in these two trains.
Currently, metro rail movement remains stopped from Agargaon to Motijheel part of the route after 11:30am, while it remains operational till 8:30pm in Uttara-Agargaon section.
The metro rail service has been operational between Uttara and Agargaon since last December.
