Police have arrested four Awami League activists, including Mashiur Rahman Suju, the General Secretary of the Narayanganj Metropolitan 23rd Ward Awami League, while distributing party leaflets in various neighborhoods of Bandar, Narayanganj.
The arrested individuals are Mashiur Rahman Suju (50), Son of late Abul Hossain Mia from Kadam Rasul, Bandar Thana, and an Awami League leader. Faruk (45), Son of late Shukkur Mia from Nabiganj Bagbari, and a Jubo League leader. Jaman Mia (42), Son of Anu Mia from Dari Sonakanda, and General Secretary of the 20th Ward Volunteer League. Saidul Molla (47), Son of Jasim Uddin Mia from the same area.
On Tuesday, February 4, police formally arrested them under case number 3(9)24 and presented them before the court. They were initially detained during an operation on Monday, February 3, when police raided various areas in Bandar Thana.
According to sources, these activists had been secretly distributing Awami League leaflets for two days in different neighborhoods of Kolagachia in Bandar Upazila and wards 20 and 23 of Narayanganj City Corporation, following central directives.
During a leaflet distribution campaign on Monday night in Nabiganj, Sonakanda, and Rupali areas, police, acting on a tip-off, detained Jaman Mia and Saidul Molla. Later, a video related to this event was uploaded to the verified Facebook page of the Bangladesh Awami League, which quickly went viral, sparking widespread discussions across the district. Following this, police conducted further raids and arrested the four activists.
Bandar Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tariqul Islam confirmed the arrests, stating that they had been detained under case number 3(9)24 and sent to court.
